Importance of Hydration

Do you know the difference between moisturizing and hydrating? They are two different but equally important concepts in skincare topics. Do your skin feel dry even you have applied plenty of moisturizing cream? If yes, this can be a sign that you should know more about the difference between moisturizing and hydrating. Knowing the difference and correct meaning of these two concepts helps you decide the best skincare products to buy.

There is a great difference between the concept of hydrating and moisturizing, though both of them are related to water or moisture. When we talk about moisturizing, we refer to the prevention of moisture loss by a protective moisturizing layer. But, for hydrating, we mean the actual replenishment of moisture or water to skin cells. Therefore, you should replenish moisture to your skin first before you have your moisturizing skincare products applied.

Baby’s skin is always supple and radiant because the moisture level is high. Moisture level of baby’s skin can be twice high as the moisture level of a woman’s skin. The skin moisture level of a woman starts to decrease significant from the age of 25. Therefore, without proper hydrating procedures, moisturizing cream may not be effective as the commercials described.

If you have the experience of a hydrating facial treatment at a salon, you will know that your skin stays supple for a few hours or a day at most. The effect of hydration lasts only for a short while. This is because the moisture is replenished externally instead of directly to your skin cells. To supply moisture to your skin cells directly, you do not need those expensive treatments. You only need to drink plenty of water every day.

Usually, people drink water when they feel thirsty. According to doctors’ opinions, the water level in your body is extremely low when you have the feeling of thirsty. Therefore, even you are not thirsty; you should keep drinking water for a whole day. Besides, it is recommended by doctors that at least 100ml of water should be drunk every time if you wish to replenish moisture to your body.

There is knowledge behind the time of water drinking or replenishing. Around 200ml of water is lost every night when you sleep, therefore it is important to replenish water to your body once when you have woken up. Every morning before your breakfast, you should drink around 450ml of water. At night, to prepare for the 200ml water loss, you should drink some water as well before you go to bed.
