Human Motivation Theories: Essential For Optimizing Performance

Human behavior theories has been consider in relation to giving people a different picture of what motivations really means ,and keeping you motivated is essential to our way of life. Compare to Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, The ERG Theory is similar in a less degree because it is also hierarchical. However, the difference is it lessens the number of need levels into three. These theories identified as the human needs of existence, growth and significance.

In addition to the human motivation theories given, another one is Herzberg’s Two Factor Theory. This is a content theory that directly emphasize on people in their working environment and their working habits. Herzberg’s studied on the reason why employees feel positive or unenthusiastic at work made him develop a two-steps method on understanding employee satisfaction and job motivation.

Also in significance to the theory of needs in the work place comes David McClelland’s Acquired-Needs Theory. It states that a person’s particular needs are acquired and developed by his or her experiences in life. These three needs were classified into achievement, affiliation and power.

Any of the given theories can be applied on area of business and to any individual. The set basis of each theory is that people are relying on their needs and it must be satisfied. A person can achieved stability then and will start to act constructively to their environment and this will result to positive actions.
