Get Vain and Get Moving

If there’s anything that’s guaranteed to get every ounce of muscle in your body to writhe and groan in protest, it’s the thought of actually having to exercise. It’s difficult to start a weight loss program, particularly if you’ve been inactive for so long.

In a lot of cases, getting started is a mental battle: Once you get your mind convinced, your body will follow willingly, no matter the pains and aches that inevitably come when you first get into a fitness regimen.

For those who can’t seem to be convinced that working out regularly is your best defense against heart ailments and type 2 diabetes, perhaps a vainer approach will accomplish the job of motivating you. Serious exercise buffs might brand you as silly and shallow, but hey, if it gets your butt moving, why should you care about what others say? After all, if the goal is to exercise for health, how you get there (as long as you do get there) should be your own business.

One of the vain things that you can do to get your exercise hormones in full swing is to go shopping for a new outfit. This means spending a sum, but for the trained shopaholic, no sale can escape their expert scent. New gym clothes and shoes can get you fired up to conquer the treadmill. After all, do you really want to get caught working out wearing an old frumpy shirt? Accept the fact that all the curves will be right where they are not supposed to be but as soon as you put on your new exercise clothes, you can look forward to losing the excess flab and going to the mall again to get newer clothes that flaunt your new figure. There’s something about wearing new clothes that get individuals excited to exercise.

Another vain thing that can motivate you to exercise is to get a gadget. We put this in the vain category since you don’t really need them to make your workouts effective. But sporting on a technologically-advanced heart monitor or pedometer can give you that much-needed workout push.

A pedometer does not only count the number of steps taken on a daily basis. Research has proved that individuals who wear these throughout the day were more conscious about reaching their 10,000 steps and thus, moved more. For the technology buff, a gadget may be all you need to motivate yourself to exercise.

Those who are more stimulated to run or walk when they have their favorite music on can get their favorite tunes on their Ipod and use this to get themselves motivated to exercise. The tunes have to be upbeat, though, so you get the rhythm you need to get going. This might seem trivial for some who don’t need any outside aids to exercise, but for the musically-inclined, this is all the motivation that’s needed to get off the couch.

If all the talk about how exercise prevents all sorts of heart and bodily ailments does not motivate you to get off the couch, look into yourself to find other ways where you’ll be stimulated to get back in shape. It might be labeled as vain by self-righteous mortals, but if it leads you towards better health then that’s the only thing that matters.

Also, something that I’ve been adding into my training schedule is the TRX Suspension Trainer, it’s a great training tool. Lastly, be sure to read this TRX review.
