Four Points to Look Into Before a Job Interview

If you’re like a lot of people, your intention for going to a job interview is to get the job you applied for. The sad fact is that there are a number of job hunters who never get the chance to step back in because they’ve neglected a few small details. Be mindful that recruiters don’t just look at your background or work capabilities. They have their eyes on other things as well.

Fingernails

It should be obvious to anyone that nail trimming is a basic hygienic practice. It’s embarrassing to admit though that sometimes you don’t get to do this at all. You might be too busy or just plain lazy. Whatever your reason though, you can’t completely hide your lack of hygiene from an interviewer. You should be aware though that your lack of hygiene can say a great deal about you as a person. Aside from naturally appearing dirty, interviewers might also interpret untrimmed nails as you having a dismissive attitude towards small details.

Application Paper

Your very first opportunity to show off how good you are is through your application documents. Hence, you should put a little more effort into making sure they look right. This doesn’t mean putting on too much flair though. Skip the heavily perfumed special paper. For recruiters with sensitive noses, that might be just a tad offensive. What’s more, highly attractive paper might create the impression that you don’t have anything else to brag about. Make sure your actual resume content stands out more than the perfume on your paper. Also, keep in mind to keep things short. Never go over five pages with your resume.

Traits

Common sense should tell you not to twirl your hair or bite your nails during a job interview. You should also try to be mindful though of other small mannerisms that could tick interviewers off. Chewing on your lip, tapping your feet or grinding your teeth could irritate interviewers or even lead them to believe that you have a serious unresolved issue. Before you go to an important appointment, ask a friend to give you a mock interview and ask him to check your mannerisms. You can also just face a mirror and be your own police.

Extra Holes

It’s is now generally considered conservative to sport only two earring holes, one per ear. The trend is to have multiple earring holes plus more in other parts of the body. There’s nothing wrong with deciding to get multiple piercings. Keep in mind though that if you’re looking to join a company with conservative values, these might be taken as points against you. Obviously, there is no way for you to plug those extra holes you’ve got in visible parts of your body. You can’t cover up some of them too. The best way to limit the visual attention to them would be to not wear accessories with them. Don’t flaunt your nose and eyebrow rings.

Who doesn’t want to ace a job interview? If you want to be employed soon, pay proper attention to these four details, at least until you’ve fully determined the degree of rigidity that a company prefers when it comes to behaviour, attitude and appearance.
