Dental Digital Imaging Is Growing Quickly In Popularity

Dental digital imaging is a new and improved technology for taking images of a patient’s teeth. Instead of using the traditional x-ray that has been employed for so many decades, patients and dentists can now enjoy the benefits of cutting edge technology.

Most importantly there is a reduction of exposure to radiation so this is a patient friendly process. There is no chemical processing since x-ray sensors are used instead of film. The imaging takes place much more quickly and can be viewed in two dimension and three dimension formats.

The images can also be enhanced and as a result are much more precise since the resolution is better than the old x-ray version. There are no longer any large format charts needed since the images are stored in the computer.

The dentist holds in their palm an ergonomically shaped wand-like device to take images. At the tapered end there is a camera that is surrounded by about a dozen LED lights. Difficult to reach areas inside the mouth can easily be reached so that intra-oral images are exceptionally high in quality.

The camera has an auto focusing feature and the apparatus is connected to the computer. The large depth of field permits better resolution so that never before have images been so accurate. Many companies are manufacturing this device and there are slight variations with each model. Some for example require a capture card and some do not.

Dental digital imaging is a cutting edge technique for acquiring more accurate images of teeth with much less health risk to the patient. Dentists too benefit in that they can view the results more quickly and do not have to keep hard, bulky x-rays on shelves. Data can be stored in the computer and copies are easy to reproduce. Time is saved and there is much more accuracy for the dentist to better analyze the visual data. Read more about: dental digital imaging
